Race for a CURE!

As some of you know my sister Chalyse was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. When we heard about the Race for the Cure this year my sister Cami and I just had to do it! My sister Cami has a friend-Ellen- in her ward that has just finished with her chemo therapy- so there was a BIG group that got together to Race with Ellen. so I tagged along with them.

This is Cami and Ellen. Doesn't Ellen's hair look cute!

The night before the race Cami and I designed T-Shirts to wear. Her husband had the great idea for Cami (being 7 mo. pregnant) to put a baby bottle nipple on her belly button to make her whole stomach look like a big boob. I didn't think she was really going to do it... but she did! It was so hilarious! I am so glad that I have a sister and bro-in-law with such great sense of humors.

Madis onsie was my favorite! The back started peeling off but it said,

"I roll for my Aunt Chalyse"

Saturday morning we all car pooled down town and got ready for the race. I was so taken back at how many people were there! The announcer said there was over 18,000 people racing! It was so amazing standing in the midst of that many people all wanting the same thing- a cure for breast cancer. I am floored by how many lives breast cancer had touched. Before my sister I only knew of a few people in my mom and dads ward or my sis-in-laws mom. But really no one directly related to me has ever had to go through with this.
This was the whole group

This was the Starting line

The race started and a flood of people that we running just flew by us. We all walked the 5 K- I am not much of a runner :) But I loved the walk, I loved being able to take it all in. I loved reading the T-Shirts! These were some of our favorite sayings: "Save Second Base"(it took me a minuet to get it- but its hilarious!) and "Of course these are fake! My real ones tried to kill me!" We got a good laugh from them.

This was everyone behind me. Look close you can see the starting line
and a million people that are still behind it!

This was everyone in front of me. They go all the way to the
mountain, and then the race looped to the left.

It was also so funny to watch people look at Cami's stomach. Some came and asked to get pictures, some pointed and laughed out loud and told her how much they loved it, and others passed by slowly acting like they weren't looking and then would whisper for their friend to turn around and look at it like they were horrified. We got a good laugh at that too!

After the race was over we all went to the ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE- yum, yum! Cami has such a great group of friends in her ward. I was a little nervous that I would feel dumb and out of place but I didn't they were so welcoming and I just fell in love with her friend Ellen-what a great lady!

Looking back on the whole even I just felt a since of euphoria! It was indescribable! I am so glad that I did it, a little sad that I have never done it before, and excited to do it again next year! I hope next year my sister can fly home for it- But I don't think that she would walk- she would RUN! I recommend THE RACE to everyone!

Just to end, a shout out to my sister Chalyse! We love you!

what a good sister you are! Looks like you had a blast. We definitely missed you for the b-day party, your kids were so fun. The guys acted just like they always do when they get together. Tai got to ride to Salina with Trav and your kids when we all came to see your garden and then our new house. I am sure you heard all about it and saw Trav's parting gift from one of the back sheds! I laughed so hard.

I'm so glad Cami decided to do the whole "belly as a boob" thing. It really was hilarious. I also LOVED your shirts. They were so cute. And while you were out there doing this AMAZING thing for your sister, we got to enjoy the rest of your family. Seriously, we just love you guys. You are the best & you're obviously the best sister ever. Way to go!!!
