Getting Domestic

This year I finally have started something that I have been wanting to do for years but never thought I could. I actually learned how to CAN(bottle-what ever you want to call it). My friend Andrea let me come over and she taught Katie and I how to bottle Katie's peaches-and I fell in love with it. I had such a great time.
After that I went and got my own fruit and I have been going crazy ever since. I have also been on a dehydrating craze. I am getting all prepared;)
Things I have CANNED: Peaches, Pears, Apple Sauce. DEHYDRATED: apple slices. banana slices, strawberry fruit leather.
I enjoyed it so much I tried to get others on the bandwagon. I took all my stuff to Sarah's house and we did her peaches. Then I went over to Cami's house with Chanda and we bottled 4 boxes of peaches all while 8 kids were running around and crying. We were so glad when grandma showed up!
I just have to make a quick note: If you want to start canning, don't start with apple sauce! It was the only thing I did that I don't know if I'll do again. It was such a mess! and it took FOREVER! I was definitely cussing when I had to clean my stove when it was all over. After 5 hours of canning the apple sauce I only got 14 bottles!!!Ahhhhhh!

Thanks for the great learning experience and FUN! Canning is not something I would ever attempt on my own. I think it is funner when you are doing it with others. Enjoy your fresh fruit all winter long. The pears are great. I can't wait to try the peaches, maybe tonight. Until next year!
